Art Ayers – Our project in Kenya has been Completed!!!!We have received pictures which he will pass along.  Whatever overages were incurred will be covered by the builder.  We Thank you ART for your dedication and hours of work on this project these past three years.

We had two articles in the District Newsletter. One for Educator of the year and one for The Arbor Day tree planting.
At the last Board meeting we approved
Up to a total of Five scholarships ($325.00) for the Budding Naturalist program at Liberty Hyde Bailey Museum.
A motion to donate $500.00 to the Riverfront Concert Series.
A motion was approved to pledge $10,000.00 to the Michigan Maritime Museum, over a two (2) year period, and seek Grant funding to support a display kiosk project.
A motion to donate $1 ,000.00 for the South Haven History Club was approved.
 
Paul Layendecker has been chosen as the Citizen of the Year.
 
And in keeping with our desire to keep expenses down the board declined to double the board member compensation.
Car Show sponsored by the Rotary Club will be May 18th in the parking lot of the
Senior Center. The hours are approximately 4 till 7pm. Tom Ruesink or Dana Hullinger.
                           
We'll be scheduling a pancake breakfast organizing meeting later this month. Jerry Gruber has already sent in our Van-Buren county special event permit applications for both the July 3rd and the August 14th events.
The Rotary transition dinner will be Thursday June 30 at Hawks Head restaurant and golf course. The golf course might be used before the dinner. See Dan Thompson to help set up the golf event.
We have been asked to participate in the July 4th parade Rotary's part would involve manning the streets around the parade route, while Kiwanis would be helping at the staging area. Becky Burkerk will set up a meeting in May.
We're planning on Pancake breakfasts for Sunday July 3rd and Sunday August 14th 2022. There will be special volunteer opportunities to inventory and clean our pancake breakfast equipment before the July event.

Jerry Portman introduced today’s speaker our own Tom Renner! The Author of In Pursuit of Excellence. Available at Hope College Book Store. A labor of love of photos taken through the years starting in 1953. Published by Van Ralty Press and Hope College. 2 Volumes 1003 Pics!
Fun Facts about Tom!
  • 1967 Graduate
  • Joined Rotary in 2014, Max VanZoren was his sponsor.
  • Board Member South Haven speaker series.
  • During his college years he collected and took athletic and other photographs, always having his camera nearby.
  • Nicknamed Telephoto Tom.
 
Tom displayed and explained the different camera types he used through the years.  He had his own darkroom.

Thank you Tom for your hard work and excellent documentation of the history of sports and time at Hope College.
Bill Roberts Thanks Tom for his presentation. Everyone was asked to don Red Noses for awareness of raising life changing fund to ensure a healthy future for all children. We took a group photo to show our support.  The meeting was adjourned with the Four Way Test promptly at 8 a.m. Next weeks meeting is at 7 a.m. in person at Peace Lutheran Church, on Tuesday, May 23, 2022.  Kevin Schooley is the sponsor of our next meeting, regarding the 2021 Bond proposal.
