Bob and Gail Brickman updated the Rotary Directory Sheets, they are in a box in the back of the room.
 
Scott Mark updated us on Barry Winkel- Barry was at Mary Freebed but was taken back to Butterworth Hospital. He has some kind of infection; he also has had Covid. Still waiting on test results and answers.
 
Mark Oland has two tickets for Christmas Vespers.  Please contact him if you are interested.
 
 
Announcements:
 
  1. Blessings in a Backpack volunteers needed this Thurs., Dec. 1st and next Thurs. Dec. 8th; 10:30am North Shore School.
  2. Please sign up for an hour shift for our Salvation Army Bell Ringing Service Project scheduled for Dec. 10th, see Griffin to sign-up.  Thank you, Griffin and Sandra, for taking the lead on this service project.
  3. Our Holiday Party will be Dec. 14th at the Congregation Restaurant on Broadway.  Rhonda has a sign-up sheet circulating. 
  4. Dec. 20th will be our evening to serve the Christmas Open Door Dinner at the United Methodist Church.  Thank you, Jerry Gruber for leading this effort and to Amy Nichols for assisting.  Jerry also has a sign-up sheet for shifts of volunteers.
  5. Our December Club Assembly will be Dec. 6th where the election of the ‘23- ‘24 board will take place.  Our presentation focus will be on our Grants to the community so far this year. Please plan to be there.
  6. I have a membership application for Mike Matheny to join the Club.  We look forward to welcoming you as a new member soon.

Bob Copping -Told us today about a man who had the misfortune of having a Grand Piano, Tuba, French Horn and Two Cello’s fall on him.  The police say it was an “Orchestrated Attack” 😊

Tom Ruesink picked Mike Mathney to draw the winning numbers today.
Steve Larson won and drew a 2 winning ½ the pot!
Melinda Gruber won the $2.00 consolation prize!
Tom Renner had Brandon Hinz tell the Club about the new insurance rating that SHAES has been given.  Every 5 years they are rated and the rating has changed from a 4-6 to a 3-5 which will benefit the Residents with a lower home owners insurance premium.

2 New Inductees into Rotary
LaRae Odland- Sponsored by husband Mark Odland. Mark wants to officially welcome LaRae to Rotary. LaRae has been a part of every service project and or event for the past 10 years with her husband Mark. The Odland’s son Paul is joining a Rotary Club in Raleigh N.C. today so two Odlands are being inducted into Rotary today!
Clark Gruber- Sponsored by his wife Melinda Gruber- Clark is born and raised here in South Haven, graduated from CMU and has 4 children. He is currently working at the Corwell South Hospice Community.

Today’s Presentation by Mick Middaugh and Nick Culp
Bill Roberts is the sponsor of the program today. Introducing
 Representative Mick Middaugh- A Representative who served in the Michigan House of Representatives. His district included Van Buren County, a seat which he held from the early 1980’s to 1999.
Since leaving the legislature, Mick has received two gubernatorial appointments from two different governors. One to the State Officers Compensation Commission and the other to the Judicial Tenure Commission, where he served as chair.
Mick has served as community liaison for the palisades Power Plant under its original owner Consumers Energy and then under Entergy when they acquired the plant in 2007. Mick has continued to serve in that capacity since the plant’s closure and license transfer to Holtec international.
Nick Culp is the Senior Manager of Government Affairs and Communication for Holtec Decommissioning International and is based at the Palisades Power Plant in Covert. Prior to joining Holtec, Nick worked as the Senior Manager of Northeast Government Affairs for Palisades under the site’s prior owner and operator Entergy.
Prior to joining Palisades, Nick worked in the office of U.S. Representative Fred Upton.
Nick holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from Kalamazoo College and is a graduate of Paw Paw High School He along with his wife and two daughters reside in St. Joe.
 
Mary Sue Lyon thanked Mick and Nick for their presentation. Nick was presented with a $25.00 gas card provided by Fleming Brothers Oil and Convenience Mart.  The meeting was adjourned promptly at 8 a.m. with the Four Way Test. Please join us next week, December 6, 2022 promptly at 7 a.m. at the Peace Lutheran Church. Our Next Meeting is a Club Assembly.
