Meeting was held at the South Haven Memorial Library today.
 
Mary Sue Lyon started the meeting promptly at 7 a.m. with the pledge of Allegiance.
 
Pastor Jeffrey Dick said the invocation today praying for healing of the nation and people in Ukraine.

Jim gave us a tour of the beautifully remodeled facility and we learned lots of information to pass along to our families and the community.
 
  • Open to the public Monday, April 4th  (soft opening)
  • Hours Mon-Sat 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Patrons should use parking lot behind the library
  • The library has 3 existing staff members and just hired 3 more.
  • The library was originally 11,000 square ft. and has a 1400 sq ft. edition
 
Still waiting on WIFI to be connected and some other tech to be installed.

  • Fiction Section Moved
  • New Shelving installed
  • New handicap ramp
  • New steps into the library
  • 6 Adult Public Access stations
  • 10 Chrome Books to Check out for use within the library
  • Non fiction area has moved to a  new place
  • Front desk area opened up for better public access
  • All the old furniture is being repurposed
  • 4 New teen public access computers out in the main area

  • 3 Brand New Bathrooms
  • 3 Drinking Fountains and a Water Bottle Filler

    • South Haven median age is 58.7

  • Overdrive system of E Books
 
Fireplace and Seating group is a beautiful new edition to the library.
 
Outdoor Patio will have a railing and be open by the end of April.
 
Whole new HVAC system installed.
 
Libraries are becoming more of a community Center.
 
South Haven Memorial Library is one of 15 Libraries in Michigan to receive 7 hotspots to loan out. Check them out and bring them back. If not brought back they will deactivate.
 
Mel.org is the Michigan electric library that connects all Michigan Libraries. 
 
Yearly budget to buy books is $34,000, books are bought through book reviews.
 
Lower level is the childrens library
  • Layout has been changed to make more room for childrens books
  • Kids computer stations are in the large wooden sailboat
 
 
The library now has a moveable wall system to the Community Room.

The book drop off is a fireproof room

Mary Sue thanked Jim for the wonderful tour and all of the information about the South Haven Memorial Library.  She presented him with a $25.00 Fleming Brothers Oil and Convenience Mart Gift Card. We ended the meeting with the Four Way test promptly at 8 a.m. Next weeks meeting is back at Peace Lutheran.  Mary Sue Lyon is the sponsor with guest speaker Wendi Onuki, the Executive Director of the Curious Kids Museum and the New Mitten Kids Museum of South Haven.
