President Odland opened the meeting via ZOOM this morning with the Pledge of Allegiance..  Art Ayers offered our invocation and we also offered prayers for Art, Chris and their son who suffers from depression and is undergoing treatment over the next few weeks.

Our guests this morning included Rev. Jeffrey Dick, Assistant Governor Dyann Chenault and Joel and Heidi Gesiakowski.

Announcements:

  • Our next club meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 30 at 7:00 AM via ZOOM.  We will continue to meet weekly via ZOOM until we can meet face-to-face in a safe environment.

  • The meeting next week will be our annual Induction of Officers meeting and there will be several special presentations, including four new Paul Harris awards and some special awards from our Rotary District.  As this is a special meeting, all spouses and significant others are invited to attend.  It would be great to have a nice crowd for this special meeting.

  • The educational fundraiser has been canceled and the Board has elected to rescind the $100 mandatory donation for that event.  However, we would like to continue to support the three items this fundraiser is associated with.  This includes the LMC Scholarship fund, the South Haven Public Schools Foundation and our own Rotary Scholarship.  Members are urged to make a donation to our Educational Fund, hopefully of at least the usual $100.  You can do that by sending your contribution to Bob Straits indicating your donation to that fund or any of the groups supported by it.

  • If you have not received the club survey, sent out on Friday, check your junk or spam email.  Please respond to the survey at your earliest opportunity and feel free to use the comment section.

  • The Board has canceled the pancake breakfasts for this summer and president-elect Bill Roberts has assembled an activities committee to look at alternate fundraising and social activities.  More on this next week!

  • Membership Committee will postpone their meeting until July 2nd.

50/50

Larry Wittkop was our 50/50 winner this week and Bob Stickland won our virtual $2 prize.

Fines:

  • Art Ayers is celebrating his son's birthday this week.

  • Ross Woodhams ZOOMED in from work this morning as his business is up and running.

  • Bob Boerma celebrated a big birthday this week (58?) with his family.

  • Rhonda Wendzel’s daughter will be a year older this week.

  • It was reported that it looks like Marty Graber may get back from Kenya in July.  Fingers crossed!

  • Dyann Chenault congratulated Mark Odland on a very successful year as our president.

Dan Thompson, introduced our speakers, broadcasting from their kitchen, Joel and Heidi Gesiskowski

Dan began by presenting Joel and Heidi with our Rotary Club of South Haven Citizen of the Year Award.

Joel and Heidi have dedicated themselves and their business to the community from the day they came to our town in 2012.  They donate time, money and food to many worthy causes.  Recently they were awarded the Chamber of Commerce Business of the Year Award, and a State of Michigan Business Excellence Award.  They have also been featured on Michigan Public Broadcasting’s “Under the Radar” program.

During the current COVID crisis, Joel has broadcast a virtual Sunday afternoon cooking class.

This morning he and Heidi did a cooking demonstration for us.  Unfortunately for the membership, only Dan Thompson and his cameraman Tom Renner were able to actually “Taste” the result, but had raves for Joel’s creation.

Joel and Heidi demonstrated how to make homemade cinnabun waffles.  He took us through the whole process from making the waffle batter to preparing the butter and frosting for the finished product.  We even learned how to make a homemade frosting applicator!

The demonstration was recorded and will be on our website and Facebook Page shortly.  In addition, Heidi will forward us the recipe and we will email it to all of our members to try.  Joel suggests that they are best served with a coffee drink or mimosa.

Dan thanked Joel and Heidi for their demonstration and congratulated them again for the work they have done for our community.

We closed the meeting with the Four Way Test.

June 30th Program:  We will have our annual Induction of Officers meeting that morning, along with the presentation of a number of awards.  Spouses and significant others are invited to attend.
