POKES VOL. LXVIII NO. 19
December 14, 2021
President Bill Roberts called the meeting to order promptly at 7:00 a.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance.
The invocation today was by Pastor Jeffry Dick. He gave thanks for the Salvation Army and their work in the community.
Announcements
We got a thank you from Bob Linderman for the Boy Scout troop #188 Grant.
We got another thank you and Tax Receipt from Felix Theonugraha the President of Western Theological Seminary for tour grant to the Prison Education program.
We received a resignation email from Paul Hemmeter. Paul states “As we are now spending most of our time in Indiana, I would like to resign my Rotary membership in the South Haven Club. I have enjoyed my time in Rotary and will always cherish and remember the great friendships I have made within the club.” Paul Joined Rotary on January 1, 2012.
I got a 2022 Emergency Preparedness reminder from Entergy and the Palisades Plant which contains an offer for free Potassium Iodide tablets. Your thyroid collects iodine that it needs to function. During an accident radioactive iodine can be released. To avoid collecting radioactive iodine in your thyroid, taking the Potassium Iodide will fill your thyroid with iodine so that it will not accumulate the radioactive iodine because once it’s full it won’t accept any more. Design Basis accidents verses MHA accidents and once the reactor is defueled, only one accident scenario will remain; loss of spent fuel pool cooling. Once the fuel is all moved to sealed storage, then that accident will no longer be credible and the need to site emergency preparedness will be small.
