Tonight was our annual Induction of officers’ dinner.
 
President Renner opened our dinner by welcoming spouses, guests and special guests Jim and Cheri McCloughan, John and Sue Gilbert and Don and Pat Shook.  Art Ayers offered an inspiring invocation.
 
Guests:
Prospective member Steve Miles also joined us.
 
Announcements:.
  • Golf Prizes were distributed with Don Hodgman winning longest drive, Bob Straits longest putt and Dene Hadden closest to the pin.  Team prizes were also awarded with scores tremendously low.
  • We raised $410 for We Care between golf and the putting contest.
We had three drawings tonight as we distributed $304 dollars.  Jerry Portman won $84, Dorothy Lockwood won $100 and Paul Hix had the big winner, walking home with $120.
 
Fines:
  • Don and Marian Hixson celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary this week.  Congratulations!!
  • Larry and Midge Lewis celebrated their 49th anniversary.
  • Richard Swanson’s grandson celebrated a birthday this week.
  • Tom Ruesink’s son had a birthday this week.
  • We selected one of our better Ludington Style birthday songs to honor this week’s anniversaries and birthdays, much to the delight of our guests.
 
 
Steve Larsen presented a Paul Harris award to Jim McCloughan in recognition of his service to our country as a Congressional Medal of Honor winner for his heroic actions in the Viet Nam war.
 
Don Shook, along with member Bill Roberts, presented Jim with a specially carved “Veteran’s Cane” to honor his service.
 
Jim offered his heartfelt thanks to the club for this honor and asked us to remember all of the veterans who have served our county, especially those who did not return.He was humbled to receive this award form a group that does so much to serve our community.
 
Scott Mark presented our Community Service Award to John and Sue Gillette for their many years of service to the We Care Food Pantry.
 
John thanked us for the award and for the support that we offer those in need in our community.
 
Rhonda Wendzel presented our Rotarian of the Year Award to Scott Mark, highlighting all of the things that he does unselfishly for our club and community
 
Scott humbly accepted the award and is thankful for our club and its service.
 
In the moment that President Renner has been waiting for for months, he was pleased to turn the presidency of our club over to Mark Odland.Tom talked about the many achievements we have achieved as a club during the past year and looks forward to Mark continuing to keep our club vibrant and giving.
 
Mark graciously accepted the gavel and especially thanked his sponsor, Bob Stickland, for continuing to ask him to join Rotary. Mark looks forward to another great year for the Rotary Club of South Haven. Mark presented Tom Renner with a very presidential parting gift.
 
Mark also introduced President Elect Steve Larsen and future president Dan Thompson.
 
We closed our dinner with the Four Way Test.
